RED Tidedon't happen in a frish tank ever.. Red tide is a bacteral alge bloom that only occures in the ocean .. this bloom floats around the ocean and lands in different spots

thank you,
yes i know what red tide is, i surf and fish alot in santa cruz. i just didn't know what else to "call" it.
my water is red, no, not from cool aid..
anybody

i seen fresh water turn GREEN , .................even brown , brown only when using a Black water extrac or peat moss but never RED

i think it might be my light? on one tank, it turns the water green in days. on the present tank it turns it red. i changed 30 gals last night on this 125, didn't help at all. oh well

There are dinoflagelates and monocellular red algaes that give a cloudy red appearance to freshwater (very rare in tanks) usually due to over abundant phosphates. I have no Idea how to cure it except more mechanical filtration like diatom filters, UV, or adding an absorbtion resin. I don't know how well they work as I have never had the problem.

thanks guppy. time to pull out the old vortex (pain in the butt) filter.
this is a new one to me. although the fish are so mellow right now, maybe i should leave it, lol

I bet pirhanas could turn the tank red if you starve them and then drop in some meaty feeders (like your neighbor).
