I got him from another board member here on MFK. He has the most amazing pair of RTMs in a 180. This guy shares the 125 with Amph. Xiloas and is a bully even at his age. He messes quite freely with the bull male Xiloa (at about 6-7") and does not back down. The female Xiloas get chased all the time.

From the time I got him on 20th December:

I love Motas. I had a pair a couple of years ago that breed like rabbits. The two I had put any pair of Convects to shame. Good luck that's a nice looking fish.

They look great. How big do they get? I've heard of them but never seen them available around here.

Thanks. Yes, its quite pretty for sure. I am amazed how nice the adults look. I know the females are spectacular, but males when fully grown are a sight to watch. Quite nice patterns.

I have seen a male that I think was maybe 11-12", I don't know how large the females get.

Beautiful female. She's a stunner for sure. Nice pics also.

LOL, are you sure? All this time I assumed this guy is a male, I guess I was wrong. He was the largest of the batch (I know that is not conclusive), and also the most aggressive, per the breeder. I was wondering why he had so much red in the throat, but thought it was part of him growing up.

This variant is difficult to find, I am going to pick up some more (siblings of this fish) from the same breeder. I ideally would like unrelated pairs, but don't see these guys offered all that much.

Wow this guy looks great at this size already. I've never seen a mota in person, only dovii. Do they have anywhere near the same type of teeth as a dovii or jaguar? I can never tell from pictures, they always seem to be side shots when I see them. I love the colors on RTMs though, these might be the way I go next. Definitely doing a pair of parachromis...

How big is the fish?

I bought 6 about 2.5 months ago. 2 of them grew rapidly while the other 4 stayed relatively small. The 2 big ones are 4" but still do not show much in the way of adult coloration. The big one I assume to be a male is just beginning to get the male pattern on the side of the body. His head is also considerably more bulky than what I am guessing is my female. My female is slightly bigger than the male and is shaped/colored similar to your pic. One of the few species of CAs that I think the female is more attractive though. So if I had just one I would want it to be female.

My male getting the large head may be influenced by other motas being in the tank. Looks good and I would appreciate updates.
