ive had the opposite experience. with both my female mota and freddy being far more territorial and aggressive than my pair of jags twice their size in the same tank.

lol just goes to show how big of a difference individual personality makes haha, though i have not personally kept motas that account was just from what i have gained talking with others and the threads on here

i have kept both jags and motas, and i have noticed by far that the male mota is way more aggressive, and the jag is way more territorial , but the jag gets larger .... the mota is more of an active fish when full grown and jags tend to get huge and lazy.. but it does viary on the fish...

yeah my jags used to be interesting now they are fat mean lazy freeloaders, the only reason i keep them is because there still my first fish i bought at 5 inches in october, and because they always are fun to watch there fry but if i could i would sell them for a different pair of fish

The size of your tank and the intention of upgrading in the future if need be are what will help answer your question. Personalities vary as already mentioned but the space given to various large, territorial , and aggressive cichlids can add to their behavior.

im getting the idea, dedends on the fish... ya the bass is not permanent, just wiating for a buddy to finish his pond but he is hungry at 80 degrees. i would like to pick up those motas.. a # or buisness adress and ill come today. thanks

umm what size is the tank? and yeah it varies from fish to fish but overall i would say that mota tend to be a little less aggressive than managuense, they also dont get quite as large. also i would let that bass go, they dont like the warmer temps that the cichlids do, i wouldnt even keep a bass in a heated tank

I have always read RTM's are more aggressive than jaguars.
