So i have a mixed african tank about 100 gallons. Have some beautiful red tops, yellow labs, blue johannis and a couple rustys. Plenty of room lots of caves and rocks. Ive witnessed cicling behavior but they look like male red tops, how can i tell the males from the females? And another of subject question, would a larger un-proven pair of discus be stressing out the smaller ones and forcing the to hide and hang in corners showing dark color?

different tanks their in a 125 with 7 other discus(only discus), and my malawis have the 100 gallon all to their selves. I have at least a hundred gallons in every room of my 3 bedroom house as well as one in the living room.

Male hongis are larger and much more colorful. The males will have pointed dorsal and anal fins, while the female hongi will have rounded dorsal and anal fin.

As far as your discus go, a discus that turns black is not happy. It is showing signs of stress or disease. And yes, if a pair forms, they will make life miserable for the other fish in the tank.
