The deep south
Started as a tiny spec and it seems to be growing with the fish. Hes currently being treated with pimafix for 4 days dosage so far and also being fed kens brand aintiparisitic floating pellets. The growth/ulcer has not improved. Any suggestions on diff. Meds and or treatmens are much appreciated. He is very active and still an agressive eater.

Almost looks like a little worm on him or something im temped to take him out and remove it with tweezers, is that a terrible idea?

I will prob remove it with tweezers just be careful and make sure to get the whole thing out. I dont see how taking it out would make things worst.

All the best!

Well I pulled him for a closer look and it seems its unable to be removed with tweezers. I'm not sure if it is in fact an external parasite or worm. It def. looks more like an ulcer or skin lesion unless the parasite has burrowed further into this poor guys scales. Any further info or experience with this problem is much appreciated.

If your going to take it the fish out for a closer look and it's not a worm, put a drop of iodine on it and see if that helps. If you think it's is a worm treat the tank with somthing like API General cure or Tetra parasite clear. GL

Let us know what happens.

Thanks aquanero...ill have to do a w/c and treat with one of the meds u suggested or put him in his own 10 then treat. Hes in with a 2yr old distichodus 6-8" id rather not douse in too many more chemicals as ive already been treating with pimafix with no avail. May have to get some iodine aswell. Over 15 yrs of keeping and ive never seen this lol, whats funny is i had 2 rtgg shipped in and this guy is twice the size of the one in a diff tank with no parasite and growing quicker with better coloration :(

Set up a beautiful milk crate stand and a 10 gal w/ h.o.b. (no carbon) for this guy lol...used the tank water hes in right now but im still going to let it run for a day or two before i drop him in. Also picked up API general cure to treat him with. Still very unsure what it is on him. When i transfer him ill get a closer look again and pull off anything if its even there. Seemed like there was nothing to remove lastnight.

Waited a long time to order this guy in so hes getting the special attention he deserves. Just my luck he came in this way.

See if you can get a close look at it with a magnifying glass. General will only help if it's parasitic. If you take it out again put Iodine on it before you put it in the hospital tank. Either way the iodine will not hurt.

Ok ill be sure to put a drop of iodine on him before he gets switched into the 10...thanks again for the tip ive never heard of that until i read some of ur responses in other threads.

Finally got some iodine and dropped it on the wounds...actually had a hard time aquiring it, not sold at kmart which i could not believe, cvs wanted $20 for a bottle (hanous), and good old target came through for $6.25 :). The RTGG was moved into the 10 hospital tank and has been treated with API "general cure" for the full treatment of 4 days with 2 doses and he has not improved at all. Another small spot is actually forming on his tail so im really hoping this iodine works. Any other ideas aquanero if the iodine does not work? We can rule out anything parisitic as the general cure had no effects?
