Red ulcer/growth on RTGG

Waterchanged 40percent to remove most of the api general cure since it didnt work then gave this guy his first round of iodine. Kinda amazed how much/long it stayed in the wounds even underwater. How often should he be treated like this? It is most def. An open wound/sore and it spread onto his tail :( ...sure hope it turns around now. Also how long should i leave him out of water while the iodine is soaking in? He is an air breather but i only left him out for a minute tops.

Ive been doing some more research on this and most places say it can be genetics and there is really no cure (they can come and go on their own). I guess it can be fairly common in populations of wild fish but id like to hope there is someway to help him. Such a good specimen for his size to let this go on.

It could very well be genetic or viral in either case then there isn't much you can do. I don't want to see you keep throwing meds at it, wasting money and stressing the fish any more than necessary. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. If the fish is fine in every other respect, just let it be.

I do appreciate ur help aquanero! Im sure he'll turn around eventually. Always good to learn new treatments aswell. I now have iodine and a dripper in my fish arsenal for the future, so something good came out of it...im gonna try to dig up some more info about this problem in wild fish populations, there seem to be a few other members with the same problem lately, very odd.

Second dose of iodine was treated tonight and i finally got some vaild up close pics of him in a lighted container. This guy is a trooper just want to help him. So now a smaller "spot" has formed and it protrudes through his entire tail. Hope these new pics help identify his problem.

The lump came off?

Since you have already treated with General cure and saw no results I would suggest you try treating with either API Erythromycin or Mardel Maracyn. Make sure you do a large water change before starting treatment and follow the insturctions on the package. I try to pin point the problem through a process of elimination since different causes can persent simalar symptoms. In this case viral, bacterial or parasitic can all present some or all of the symptoms the fish has presented. There is still the posibility this could be parasitic but I'm leaning towards bacterial looking at the sores.
