Red vallisneria leaves?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The tank is ca. 45 gallons.

I've tried DIY co2 before, but found it to be too much of a hassle, timing the changing of bottles and that kinda stuff... Might give it another try soon tho.

I'm currently using tropica fertilizers - It's a danish aquarium plant company, probably not available in the states. I'm pretty sure Greg Watson fertilizers aren't available here in Iceland :)

Filter is some eheim filter.. I'm not sure what the number is but it puts out around 200gallons per hour if I remember correctly.

I'm looking for plants that grow reasonably fast. I have a few anubias attached to roots here and there, but something that grows a little faster than that would be optimal, since the tanks inhabitants aren't that considerate of plants and tend to chew on them a little :)

Unfortunately your best bet is going to be co2. This will help aid with faster growth of your plants. My anubias send up new leaves every couple days, and some varieties send up multiple leaves every other day. Several plants are fast growing, but if your fish are chewing on them, then fast growers are, for the most part, going to be too weak to stand up to them. Ludwigia species would be good, they are moderate growers, and some are fairly strong. I'd look at l. repens, broad leaf ludwigia, it is a good plant, fairly common, and looks great.
