So I've got a tire track eel I normally feed mealworms, and decided to try red wigglers

I put 3 in and he didn't seem interested, and I'm pretty sure instead of him eating them they actually dug into my substrate (I have pea sized smooth rocks). Are they going to live in there? Are they going to just die and rot? There isn't dirt and there is only 1 plant that isn't doing well, so they'd only have poop and some minor leftovers to eat.

btw, I put this in general not eel because the question is about the worms, not the eel.

They will die and rot, they live in moist soil they are not aquatic they'll drown.

I have a young Oscar and last week after it rained a nice juicy worm was crawling across the patio, so I grabbed it and tossed it in to the tank. My O immidiatly grabbed it out of instinct buy let go as I guess it felt unfamiliar, I never fed it a worm until then. It landed on the sand and the O went over to check it out, the worm jumped and wiggled wildy. My O took off like a bullet and hid in the corner behind some driftwood wouldn't come out until I removed it. I laughed, shook my head and called it a wussy!

when offering them to timid fish, it can help to cut off the worms' rear end. toss that to your fish first, and the whole worm afterwards. the bloody scent tells fish it's yummy.
worms can live without their rear end- to be eaten another day too. yes, I have put them back in the container like that and they don't die.

I used to pinch worms in half when fishing and using a small hook. the other half will regenerate. I have had good luck feeding them in the past but have not recently. Just like any new food, sometimes the fish need trained.
