I was away for a few days and it has been in the 90s here. My brother fed my fish for me but never checked the water temperature so when I got home my room was like a sauna and my red wolf was dead :( I touched the water and it was warm enough for me to bathe in because my door had been shut and my rooms over the garage so it's super hot on hot days and super cold on cold days. I just got that little guy a few weeks a go he was doing fine and now he's gone. I just got lucky that my gold nugget and senegal bichir survived the heat they are still doing fine and I adjusted the temp and did a water change.

I'm sorry that you lost your fish. It sounds to me like you should invest in a dual stage temperature controller. When it's cold it turns the heat on, when it's too hot it could turn on a couple of fans to help keep your tank cool. If it gets that hot in your room it sounds like it would be a good investment.

They are a one size fits all type of thing so tank size doesn't matter. They cost aproximately $130 but it will last forever (so to speak). Considering how much money we spend on this hobby it is certainly worth it. When you upgrade tanks later you can use it with the new tank. I have always used Ranco temperature controllers and I have never had a problem with them.

Here is a link to where I have always purchased mine. https://diyreef.authsecure.com/shop/index.php?cPath=68_135&osCsid=2be836301f6bd3a111f451feb2a7e413
