  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I used to have a purple wolf. A full 9 inches of awesomeness.

Yea.. I've never seen one larger than mine was. I'm sure there are some out there but 11" is pushing it. He was a BIG red wolf..

I watched all ur videos back in the days.....

Max size-8 inches

Tank size-40 is fine but 55 is better

Water- always keep my ph at 7.0

Diet- pretty much eat whatever. Very easy to pellet train.

Tankmates- can be done but can turn into a nightmare if the wrong fish are kept with the wolf.

Key things- tight lid and cover any holes. These fish jump constantly and are escape artist.

Personal exp.- everyone will tell you that these fish are constant movers and that true in a way. But they really go through spurts of constant movement but also lay around a lot. If you keep it alone tankmates will be much harder. Mine was kept with medium sized cichlids. Mine was very friendly and ate from my hand. They are very aggressive when they have to be. Just like a mala wolf they will defend themselves and their area of the tank which won't end good for the other fish. They have been known to just snap and wipeout a whole tank tho. You really just need to figure out your wolfs personality. You could get a gentle beast or a straight killer.

Side note- if I had my option between a red or mala wolf I would choose a mala as I enjoyed making bonds with the ones I owned. Reds are great and I would buy another if given the chance but its all about what you want... good luck and post pics if you get one.

Let me know if ya wanna know anything I may have left out....

wow this thread really blew up. Lol thanks for all the info. Lots of help for sure

My Erythrinus erythrinus killed all 5 of its tankmates of similar sized predatory fish within 2 days. Mine was only active at night. Erythrinus sp. Peru on the other hand was very outgoing, swimming nonstop and bold, but not too overly aggressive.

I would also highly suggest getting a Hoplias species in a bigger tank. Hoplias curupira is the best fish that I've owned thus far, bar none.

Just curious what would be bare min for a curupira

What happenened to your little dude mud ? I would say for a black wolf a 180 would be a bare min but a 225 would be better

Ohh lol I figure if I would go that big a fahaka puffer would be my choice. Would a 75 be okay for a solo red wolf? A large peice of driftfood or so with a couple powerheads?

Lost power for a week back in July when the East Coast got hit by a huge storm. I have well water so I couldn't do water changes to keep the water fresh. I ended up losing almost all of my fish. He died within two weeks of getting the power on.

75 is more than enough. Get some small drift wood and make a cave for him and leave the other side of the tank open. When I had a solo mala I did that. He would creep out the cave during feeding times
