I have had my red wolf for about a month and a half and he occasionally will swim kind of frantically and rub the side of his body against the sand. Is this a parasite or some type of disease I should worry about or regular behavior?

Flashing typically suggests some kind of irritation due to parasitic infection. If you don't want to dose meds without positive identification you can bump the temp to 80-87 F and add some salt. Double check to make sure salt and temp is safe for your wolf fish and to find the proper dosage. Try that for a couple weeks and see if it helps.

I'd also do some water tests to see if water quality is perhaps bothering it.

99.9% of the time that is a sure sign of a parasitic infection. Most likely gill flukes.

I would definetly treat the fish ASAP with a good parasite med.

I suggest Jungle Labs Parasite clear tabs. They contain 4 different meds all in one easy to use tablet and the 4 meds cover pretty much every known aquatic parasite. Treat per box instructions and I would do atleast 2-3 back to back treatments. As gill flukes are very hard to kill and can transfer from fish to fish.

Juat saw latest post. Will do as soon as I can. Thanks.

Will this stuff hurt plants or anything?

It will harm inverts such as shrimp and snails. But will not harm any fish that I know of including several scaless species. I have used it in a fully planted high tech 55g several times to no ill effects.

Ok, after 3 dosages of jungle labs parasite tabs he is still doing. Should I put the 4th tab in?

The dosage is supposed to be 1 tablet for every 10g of tank size.

And then i think it says something like a 25% water change after 3 days and then another full strength dose added.

So what size tank do you have and what exactly have you dosed in the last 4-7 days since the post saying you were going to try it?

Yeh, it says 1 tabs for every 10g every 3 days. 25% WC then redose if needed. I am dosing a 20g long and have followed the directions for 3 doses. He has definatly been doing it less but it still happens.

Sounds more and more like gill flukes.

They are very very hard to get rid of.

I would complete these 3 and wait one week. Then do a 50% water change and repeat for 3 doses.
