Afternoon all, been looking at wolf fish the past couple days and tank size seems to be up in the air. Are they a footprint type fish where height doesn't really matter? For example, could a Zoo Med low boy 50 house one for life? Here is a link to the tank, and this is so he could be under my large display tank, maybe over.

I've got a 40B ATM. The low boy is 48"x24"x12" .That's why I was curious if height truly mattered for this fish.
That's good dimensions I'd say. Can add some tankmates as well. They don't use the height to much unless you feed floating foods or have fish they may want to swim with ime.

What about the split 125G moe214 moe214 ? Also, what tank makes would work well? I'll have another tank with bichirs.

With tankmates it's always gonna depend on the specific fishes personality. For example my jag cat bullied my last erythrinus though it was a purple, and bullies the one I have now which is an undescribed sp. however jaws' ery did some damage to one of his jag cats.

But I've never had a problem with bichirs and wolves. You just can't house the big guys in that tank, stick to UJ species and avoid ornate and teug. I've kept them with other characins and catfish. Cichlids usually bully ery sp.

Maybe I'll put him in with the UJ bichirs. I've got some schemes/ideas. A co-worker and I bought a 3 pack of red wolves at 3". I'm taking 2 of them and going to split them in a 40B for the moment. Either rehome or get a 75G/125G to keep them in. I am curious, if given adequate space, can 2 reds survive in a tank? If there are 3-4 "caves" and dense plants would they just take a side of the tank or is a 75G/125G not enough territory?

2 is a definite no. 125 isn't adequate space, you'd probably need like 1000 gallons even then they may search eachother out. Conspecific aggression is generally bad lol. You'd have to get quite a few reds or have a fish that actively serves as a peacekeeper which is quite rare. We've only seen it done with purple wolves. I think he had five in a 150. Reds can be a little more aggressive.
