Red wolf

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
pics? There are some subspecies of the erythrinus species that don't get any (or bearly any) any red such as the erythrinus peru, sp tahuoyo river, Kessleri etc. They are a bit hard to differentiate when very small.

Other then that you can feed them fish fillet, shrimp, and color enhancing pellets.

There was a unknown species at my shop looked like a Peruvian but can't be sure In pretty sure I have ery ery I'll try but it's hard to find him in the tank lol

The one in my avatar is my old 10 inch ery peru. As you can see, he doesn't have that much red except for the dorsal fin and a hint of red near the stomach.

The little bugger jumped out I left the lid open the tiniest bit. Luckily I found him in time.

i forgot to mention that these mini monsters are extremely under rated jumpers. Just a mere 4 incher can jump a foot out of the water. I learned it the hard way when i was doing a water change and my 4 inch erythrinus erythrinus whacked me in the face.

Also, I would add as soft covering (like Styrofoam) on the lid because they will jump when they spook. My latest red wolf that I sold to a fellow MFKer died after continuous blows to the head when it tried to jump out during water changes. He always hit his head against the plastic edges of the tank.

Here are a couple of pics of my Ery. Peru 10" showing some good color. I feed mine Krill, earthworms, and Large Cichlid Pellets. I have a canopy of duckweek and other floating plants that sem to keep them settleed and prevents them from getting excited and injuring themselves wehn you walk up to the tank, turn on the light or startle them.

I think the way to sex the ery ery perus is by it's color. Am i correct? usually the males have the the most red on them to attract females. I think my old peru was a female since it only had a dullish red at the dorsal fin and a redish tinge at the belly.

Just my assumption.
