I just picked up five of these at an auction for $11. I know the basics of what they eat and how big they get but I wanted to see if any of y'all could tell me anything about them. I have a yellow lab and 5 syn. Petricola already in the tank with drift wood and rocks. Any tips to get good color out of them and just general experiences. Also I'm not sure what category to post in so I posted in this one.

Just feed them flake and like 2 times a week feed them blood worms. Feed the fish like 3-4 times a day and only 1 of those blood worms on the 2 times a week for blod worms. After doing this for a week their color should come out really good :D

oooohh he's very nice he has a nice neon tint to him with a very very nice blue tinge on the fins, unless that's the camera lol. Other than that if they are just 1.5 inches then I would feed 4-6 times a day and do the blood worms like every Wednesday and Sunday just once out of the other 3-5 feedings. Do a 25-30% water change every week as well as cleaning filters once a week preferably or once every two weeks and your fish will thrive and grow rapidly :P

Thanks for the kind words. It's not the camera they all have that kind of color except 2. Which are more orange around the fins than blue. What kind of flakes or pellets should I use. I have Hikari carnivore which I know I'd more of a catfish pellet and I have tetra min crisp. What do you recommend do I can pick it up at the store.

hmmm... depends on what stores you have around you. I can't tell what flake you would have, but if you look on the back the ideal percents you want is min. protein-38%, min. fat-10%,Max Fiber-5%,Max Moisture-10%. I feed my fish HBH Natural Veggie Flake Basic from kensfish.com
Here is a link http://www.kensfish.com/hbh-natural-flake.html I would definitely recommend ordering it because you can get 2lbs for 10 bucks now 2lb is like 2 huge 1 gallon zip lock bags full of food. This will last you a long time and if you order like 6 pounds you are good for a year. I use this flake and then give them freeze dried blood worms every Wednesday and Sunday and all my females have gotten pregnant in the last like 4 weeks 3 have had eggs a 1.5 inch electric yellow is holding and my ahli's who spit their eggs, dumb women... lol, are getting pregnant again. My fish are thriving off this diet right now. I also have my tank double filtered, almost triple filtered

Metriaclima estherae males, breed in captivity, tend to have a bluish hue to their scales and fins, in the wild they are sold blue. Wild and captive breed females are striking orange. I only feed my mbuna NLS cichlid formula pellets; they have excellent coloration.

So does that mean the one I posted a pic of is a male.
