Does anyone know if I could keep a redbreast and a black crappie together? If not does anyone have any suggestions for tank mates for these mean S.O.B's?

Crappie arent very mean at all lol, infact i've got one with 2 yellow perch and 3 small sunfish and he is the most timid fish in the tank. Im sure you will be able to keep them with other sunfish together aslong as you tank is big enough.

From what I see, sunfish rarely bullied crappies due to crappies do not hold territories like the sunfish do.

I think I mentioned it in your other thread, but I've had redbreast kill a rockbass. The problem isn't the non-territorial fish, it is the territorial fish killing the former. Crappie will adapt to tank life better at a young age, but if you don't want your redbreast to kill the crappie, you've got to get a fish that is larger than your redbreast.

What size is your tank? Depending on this, you may just be able to get more sunnies and crowd the hell out of them. I've already told you my various experiences on redbreast in your other thread, so I won't comment further.

It's only a 20 gal. I've got the redbreast in it now. So I need to catch a bigger black crappie? lol

Rock bass do hold territorties, but they are not aggressive which that is why redbreast sunfish is able to kill the rock bass. I kept bluegills, greens and longears with crappies before but they do not pay attention to crappies at all.

not to sure but dont both the red breasted and the crappie have to total differant water temps, i have aways read that the sunfish needs the warmer water and the carppie need the colder water. well aleast around me u can only catch sun fish during the warmer months and cappies in the colder months. If thats the case i dont think mixing them will work very well
