Not trying to be rude, but are you aware it is red devil, not reddevil? Maybe its just me but it is really starting to bug me lol.

I'm the other way around...it is neither. It is either a Amphilophus Citrinellum...or an Amphilophus Labiatum. Makes the common names obsolete.

I normally assume unless the scientific name is noted, or it is noted that the specimen is pure, that it is the standard LFS hybrid. Still great fish, great pets. I call mine a midas, but he is no doubt a hybrid, just shows much more citrinelleum than labiatum.

Yeah, I understand the two scientific names, I just wish whatever he chooses to call it, it will be something other than reddevil. For the sake of my sanity, just put that space in there large_cichlids lol. It will also make you seem like you are more knowledgable about fish.

I still refer to both species as Red Devils. The way I see it, they are just two different types of Red Devils...Midas and Labiatum. If you really want specifics, then I guess I understand why people still like to use the latin/scientific names.

Besides for the most part, the common name"Red Devil" means you're getting a hybrid of both species anyway.

he'll eat it...my female used to just eat holes right out of the back of crw fish and other shelled feeders

lol tenacioustankbusters, I know a lot of people call them red devils. I do myself. It jus bugged me how he always spells red devil as one word (reddevil). best reddevil food, reddevil videos, reddevil pics. <-- thats what I meant

TenaciousTankBuster- You have a unique reddevil, if thats yours in your avatar btw haha. No disrespect to the fish if it happens to be a pure bred citrinellum or labiatus.

Thx man, and yes that fish in my avatar is my fish. And yes, More then likely he is another "MUTT/HYBRID" like almost every other RD sold at every LFS throughout the U.S. Anyways, I grew him up with a group of 6 and he was the most dominant and clearly the largest fish of the bunch. I started keeping him alone about a month or so ago and although he is very lively and healthy, He is still skittish about eating from the top of the tank. I tried dithers, Zebra Danios and Giant Zebra Danios but he ate them all!! LOL! :grinno: Even tho he is eating everyday at some point, I really hope he gets the same bad boy attitude all my other "RED DEVILS" eventually got around the 6 inch mark.

Besides the fact that he is a skittish eater, the biggest thing I've been dying to find out is whether he is trully a male or not. It would seem that since he was the clear dominant one and and the largest, and the only one to display a breeding tube, that he would most likely be a male. But still I know there is always that very slight chance I could be wrong. I am really am hoping for a male because Imo they are much more agressive, have much nicer finnage, and grow up to four inches larger then the females do and with (depending on how much A. Citrinellum he has in his genes) a big nuchal hump.

If I could just get a nice pic like some of the other guys here got of thier fish's breeding tubes, Maybe I could get some serious opinions. Only problem is he's too fast and it seems he's always at an angle that doesn't show it. When I do see it, it's wierd. Most of the time, It is long and pointed forward, but when he doesn't eat, It looks more stubby like a female? I dunno lol. I'm just really hoping for a Male. If it's a female, I'll debate whether or not I'll keep it, chances are I will, I'll just be really surprised and somewhat dissapointed.

Sorry for going off topic. I'll make a new thread once I get my DigiCam back from pops next week.
