Anything new with this concept?

I tested this design using some off-the-shelf extruded material which was slightly smaller in diameter than what is depicted in the drawings. I can't find any flaw with the basic design concept, which allows incoming water to rise within the canister and then spill over the top into the uppermost media basket. For fabrication, I can either go with injection molding or extrusion. The extruded shells would then have the gridded bottoms attached by sonic welding. I was hoping to have these manufactured in China, but to be honest, I just don't have the $$$ to initiate this project. Thanks for your interest.

Is this a DIY retrofit you were planning on doing or a mfg initiated upgrade?

There is most certainly a lot more testing I would do before I would manufacture these.

Its a no brainer that the water would spill over the top of the baskets since thats what it does already.

Getting the canister to purge correctly would be the hard part. I modded the top cover to allow the canister to purge perfectly.

I would look into bio capacity and reduce the total volume of mechanical and chemical filtration, Otherwise you will be left with roughly the same bio capacity as it already has.

Yes, definitely a "no-brainer". I'm sure you're right. Thanks.
