Redlight. Help me save Boss!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Update. I can't determine one way or another if Boss is improving, staying the same or what. Here's what's going on

Alternates between floating near bubblers and sinking near bubblers. Glides up and down instead of swimming

lays on side. breathing is strong. may be conserving strength

gill/chin area is less discolored (not red like before) but still purplish.

body color good. Still some pinkish red tint on tip of top fin and edge of tail.

I may have to make a run for some meth blue. nothing on order until next week.

Have a hail mary plan if Boss is still here next week. I've ordered oxygen tabs used for aquariums.

still holding

If the gills are dull and discolored (ie. purplish or pinkish) then it’s likely methemoglobinemia. It’s too hard to explain so you might want to look it up but basically, the gills are damaged and can’t transport oxygen, even if the water is rich in dissolved oxygen. Methylene blue will help with that also.

😥

His gills started out purple with some red areas. The color improved to just the red spots but there must have been too much damage. He even tried to help himself by pulling the air hoses next to his head. Boss was extremely intelligent. The ultimate "Mr. Cool" nothing bothered him.

I will miss him. Less than a week ago he was fine. But he had a good run, around 9 years. Never sick. Now he swims with his best buddy Brick.

Final stats

2 1/2" W
7 1/2" L
4 1/4" H
