ok my buddy is a moron and is just giving me this fish because he doesn't know what to do with it anymore. His tank is not big enough for one and he doesn't want to pay to feed it anymore. I will take it and put it in a 150 gallon for a while. He's a little over 2 feet and has a lot of girth on him. I know a 150 is not big enough for him so I want to keep him there temporarily or maybe I will sell him. I wanted to know though I know these fish are impossible to buy now since the law was introduced. This fish I believe is older then that law so I understand you are aloud to keep it, but can't purchase anymore. It's a 25" or 26" Red Line Snakehead. Please some experts give me a quote on selling this fish. Like give me a low medium and high price. Thanks

Not much, mabe 75.00 and that is high. The demand for the common red is very low and especially at that size. No matter if you are in a country or province where they are illegal, a fish of that size and aggressivness is hard to place. Babys reds on the other hand sell fast..

Many a people has unwittingly introduced this fish into the aquarium as a colourful little youngster then watched him turn into the eating machine you now have. This fish can reach 90cm/36” or more, even in the aquarium, so they need spacious accommodation and excellent filtration. That’s lots of filtration messy eater and eat a lot. You must also make sure there is a good gap between the covers and the water’s surface or the fish will drown. A fully grown adult will require a tank of about 500 gal. So this is the problem also my one had a really nasty streak when he lost that little red stripe and wiped out every fish he was put with.

But for life I would run with a (6’ x 3’ x 2’) but that’s the only fish in there.

Price haven’t got a clue the last one I bought was a juvenile I gave £5 for him but they are so easy to come by in the UK the last big one I had I was given and when I passed him on I swapped him so not a lot of help there. At the end of the day its worth is what some one is prepared to pay for him and the size and aggressive nature of the fish some what narrows it down to idiots like me. but there are pleny more of us about.:naughty:

there must be in abundance of the c. micropeltes where you're at...in some places, they are sold as feeders, and, in some are very anxious to have one, because there is none available. in your area, Ontario, and I hope that is Canada, (because there is an Ontario, also here in Southern Calirfornia), so in Canada, it would be pretty common, so $75 seems right, BUT in Southern California, the last one I saw for sale about that size, and this was about a year ago, sold for $200 each. Now, there is no one that are bringing them in just because of enforcement, and the Channa Argus. One species, our of the entire 30 known species. There might be undiscovered channas in other parts of Asia. Wow, just to know how much...maybe i also have the gift of gab? :lol2:

Old thread!. Yeah, I wish we can have some of these channas in the US. None of any channa species is allowed, although only one species (channa argus) seems to be the only one that can overwinter anywhere in the world. I am not sure about the C. Micropeltes. I believe, Fish and Wildlife research showed they cannot tolerate water below 68 for a long period of time, i.e., three days to a week. Which would make it very difficult to house them outside, except in other states where the water temp outside can remain at around 68, i.e., Florida.

The male redlines have two black spots by the anal fin, and the female is usually bigger. I am not so sure if they are mouthbrooders or live bearers. I am talking about the Giant Snakehead.
