Hello, I have a large SA community in a 12' tank. They're mostly Geos, Severums, acaras and wide bar silver dollars. My LFS has a red tail brycon thats been In a 75 with much smaller Geos for about 8 weeks. It's also with a pimadela catfish and some random others and has shown no aggression. He's about 5". Is this worth a try or should I believe all the horror stories I've read?

I say give it a try, just be cautious. In a 12 foot tank I doubt he'd act any more aggressive than when in a tank 3 times shorter but he isn't done growing yet either so. But he may not be like they're perceived to be.

Agreed

Aaron's brycon? Thinking it might be the one he ordered for me as brycon melanopterus that came in mislabeled.

He ordered it for me but when I saw it we talked and I decided to pass since they are known for aggression. I was about to get a vatf as well and didn't want the potential conflict between the two. Cool looking fish though and the fact it's living with mild mannered fish is s good sign.

I quick google search shows 43 species but most are not available in the hobby. If you pick him up I hope it works out for you.

That's also been labeled as an Ecuador barracuda. Be careful, they are very aggressive especially towards silver colored tankmates.
