I have a redtail around 25 inches. He is and has been very healthy since I bought him at 2 1/2 inches. But I just noticed he is starting to get some bumps on his whiskers. Any ideas what it could be. I've searched everywhere and not found anything similar.

maybe is ready for mating? maybe check what are the signs when rtc is ready to mate?

Hes only over a year old. But maybe, Ill try giving him a cold shower and see if that helps. J/K

He is about 25 inches long and very fat and healthy with pristine water and a big tank.

I will post some pics later. It is weird. It looks kinda like a bumpy fungus but its not. its only on the white halfs of the whiskers not the black. its that way on all of them.

I searched everywhere, no one has ever seen this problem before.

Looks like Fish Pox. Try heating your water to see if the bumps subside. Fish pox shows up as milky skin lesions, which are smooth and raised in appearance.

Heating my water? With him in it? The tank is at 83 already

But I will look into fish pox. thanx

Fish pox seems reasonable but I just cant find a picture of any other catfish on the internet with this same problem.

The only thing I have going on in my tank that I dont like, is I am running 2 fx5 filters and they are making those micro bubbles pretty bad. I tried cleaning them and removing some of the media but it must be an oring or something. I dont think this is the cause of the problem but I'm just throwing it out there for observation.

I do feed him live goldfish also

I did not realize that your water was already heated. I don't really know anything about RTCs. If your water is all ready heated, then we know that it isn't Cold Water Fish Pox that most of the time only comes around when the water is colder, and then will go away with heated water. I have a few koi with this. If it really is fish pox, the only way to get rid of it is to destroy the fish, and bleach all of the remnants of what he was in contact with. BUT, Fish pox is really nothing to worry about. It won't kill your fish, it will just make him ugly. And yeah, feeders aren't the food of choice, as they carry many things- Fish pox is not know to be contagious though.
