redtail payara lifetime

2 years so i've heard. These fish are most sensitive than armatus. You have to mimic the natural habitat of the tats for it to live a long life. Not sure how to do that.

anyone kept one for longer?

that's it? Are you sure you're not thinking of scombs? I was hoping red tail tats lived at least 8-10yrs. If 2 yrs is it, Im just gonna pick up some more datnoids

Where did you get 8-10 years from? red tails are definitely not the most hardy fish. With proper care and space, I'm sure they can live longer. Scombs are a bit harder to keep I guess.

I just said I was hoping for 8-10 years. So is the consensus 2 yrs?
 
I was hopping at least 5 years :-(. Until a betta fish can live more than this! :-(

i'm sure there are tats that can live way longer than 2 years in captivity. Most of them don't have the proper care so they don't live as long.
