I HAVE A REDTAIL CAT THAT IS ABOUT TEN INCHES AND A FEW DAYS AGO I NOTICED IT HAD SOME GILL CUR ON ITS LEFT GILL SO I DID A WATER CHANGE OF ABOUT 30 PERCENT AND I ADDED ANOTHER FILTER ON MY TANK AND THE NEXT DAY I ALSO DID ANOTHER WATER CHANGE IT'S BEEN ABOUT 4 DAYS NOW AND MY RETAIL STILL HAS GILL CURL I WAS WONDERING IF ANBODY COULD TELL ME IF IT WILL STAY LIKE THAT OR HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE TO GO AWAY BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH THE WATER HAS IMPROVED SUBSTANTIALY I HAVEN'T NOTICED ANY CHANGE IN THE GILL CURL

I have heard that once they have gill curl it is there for good unless you try to massage it out or do the surgery. If you noticed it really early I think your best bet would be to just keep it from getting worse (water changes weekly, have enough filtration on the tank) What size tank is it and what kind of filtration is on it?

IT'S A 150 AND ITS GOT TWO FX5'S ON IT SOON TO UPGRADE TO A BIGGER TANK

I THINK GILL CURL IS CAUSED BY POOR WATER QUALITY. WHAT ARE YOUR WATER PARAMETERS? (PH, AMMONIA, NITRITE, AND NITRATE)

tank 1 150gallons with fluval fx5 filter , 3 clown knive fish, 1 redtail cat, 1 channel cat, 1 bullshark, 2 pictus cats, 2 african cichlids, 1 pleco, 1 synodontis, 2 pacus.

- Unless all these fish are tiny the gill curl will not go away. It is happening because the tank has to many large fish and no matter what you filter it with that volume of water can't cope with the amount of waste all those monsters produce. Hence you likely have very high Ammonia and Nitrates, which is causing the gill curl.

Getting a MUCH MUCH larger tank or re homing some of the fish is your only option.

I TEST MY WATER EVERYDAY yesterday the ammonia was zero the no 2 was o and the no 3 was .005 ppm an my ph is 7.6 on the low end and 8.0 on the high end

I HIGHLY doubt your nitrate is at .005ppm. Most tanks on here have at least around 20ppm.

Try adding a zero to that and you MIGHT be alright.

Read the instructions on your nitrate test kit. And then read them again.
