Redtail!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The question you asked about slime- Red tails tend to "shed" a bit since they grow so fast. You said your PH was too high-how high is it?

It was about 7,5 and he stoped the sliming now and he eats like a horse everything and anything....:headbang2

By the way would it be ok to put a stingray in the tank or would it be eaten??

Yes i am im from Sweden...
Should it work with a arowana???If its almost as big as the catfish???

i put my rtc with a silver arowana before, and it didnt work.. the first few months they were fine, but then i saw my arowana keeps on attacking the rtc.. the rtc didnt fight the aro, instead it hide.. then after a few weeks i saw my siver arowana's fins were torn, so i predicted that the rtc has attacked the arowana, so i need to separate them right away.. now he's with a spotted gar and two alligator gars and doing fine.. hope nothing bad will happen..;)

Please do not drop your ph! that can be you problem it need to be high between 7.7to 8.0 RTC like there water to be hard. Is your fish in a small tank? that can also be the Problem due to stress from maybe from having it's tank being so small or you just put medicatetion or salt(direct salt contact on catfishes burns any catfish skin because it has no scales raw grain of salt can leave read marks on there body). My advice is to change your water to 75-80 precent and leave it in the dark for 5hours without any distrubance and try to feed it pellets or some feeders. it should eat it for being nocturnal. I own over a dozen redtails already and i use to have that kind of problems. If your fishes tail i not Blood red but of orange color stead of like the ones with redtails in the wild and stays that color it means your fish is showing you that it is not happy. If it's yellow it means you aren't feeding it enough.

I wouldn't do it with leaving a arrowana that arrowana will end up loseing the fight because RTC will look at everything and anything as possible food item(which will become item it ate on the poop list) I has the ablity to grow 3-4times faster than that silver arowana in environment and climate.( and that does not exactly means your heat but your heat should be at 74-76 degrees RTC like cool tempetures)

You have to be really careful what you put with that rtc one other person on this site had a 12" rtc eat his 15" aro. My 22" rtc ate my 10" african tiger:WHOA:
