hey there - I have a 29g grow out tank that started with 4 juvi trimacs and 6 giant danios about 2 weeks ago. Now i have 3 trimacs and 2 danios. The largest trimac is a female and she is a murdering bitc$. The other two trimacs are smaller males but I am afraid she will kill them, what can I do? I really want to get a male and possibly a pair...? The tank is very very clean and I change water every other day. I have driftwood and I feed hikari pellets. any ideas? I can do another tank if I have to. I have a 90 that I can set up with a divider. These fish are about 3". Thanks..

I hear where you're coming from. I'm trying to grow out some trimacs as well. I started out with 7 at about 1" each now I am down to 2. I have them in a 55 with lots of rocks and hiding spots but the large one I beleive is male has killed 4 already.Mean SOB out of all the cichlids i have raised from babys these are the most aggro IME.

add some pots and plants

Dude I had no idea it would be this crazy when I got these fish, I have experience with other cichlids and even other amphilophus but this is aggro like I have never seen before. If any fish in the tank shows any weakness at all they will be dead in like a day. I have found danios that are totally gutted and all that is left is there skeleton. Its fun and frustrating all at the same time. Maybe I just need to roll with this female...ya know?

Maybe the last two you have are a pair?

Nonetheless, never had any experience w/ Trimacs but from all I read they're ferocious SOB's that are meant to be "wet pets"...as always it'll vary from trimac to trimac.

Maybe you could try growing them out in your 90G...give them more space. Strive to get a pair then seperate the rest!

Trimacs are very underrated as far as aggression-maybe a larger grow out would work? or rearrange your tank? I have 4 monsters and the Trimac rules over a Dovii, RD, and Barred Midas-in my opinion top 3 baddest cichlids around!

A 29 gal tank is too small for fish with this big of an attitude... get a larger tank or watch your investment dwindle...

i Agree with the larger tank idea. I got my female @ less than one inch so i thought i could put it in the 20 gal with some tetras and guppies, boy was i wrong. I put her in a 30 long until she was about 3" by herself. Now she is about 5.5" in my 55Gal and will not accept any other cichlids with her. Im hoping she will let my pleco live for the few days it takes to cleen the algea. To me the best way to reduce the agression would either be to get a larger grow out or more smaller ones. Best of luck.
