how do i reduce agression between a rd and oscar


My other stunted reddevil chased the oscar around but then they got along after a couple weeks.But if u dident kno i took the stunted rd out and put in another reddevil so it wouldent stunt in the 40 gallon.Now the rd is chasing the rd around like crazy and i really hope they stop and get along...........but in the mean time how do i reduce agression.some people told me to chase the rd around with a net so he will get the message but please help.

p.s if it was my choice i would of gotten rid of th oscar a long time ago,but i cant becuase it is my moms fish but the reddevil is mine.The tank size is a 75 gallon.

I would say that 75 gallons is definetely not big enough for an adult rd and oscar. That tank would be good for one of them. Seems like the aggression is caused because the tank is too small for them and they are fighting over territory. I have seen people have success with changing around the plants and decoration so they might take a new territory instead of fighting over the same. Maybe add a cave type thing on each side of the tank and plants in the middle so they don't have much line of sight to each other. Hopefully they each take territory on the opposite sides and stay away from each other. Good luck, might be tough to have those 2 in the same tank and get along.

Don't think it's going to work. RD's demand more territory than a 75 can supply. Eventually one of them will die -- probably the O.

A 75g would be good for just one fo those fish. A bigger tank would be one way of keeping both and a good excuse to get a bigger tank

a divider is going to be your best bet because, like others have already said, a 75 is not enough space for a large rd and oscar to each have their own territory. the divider will allow each of them to have their own space, albeit not much, without the rd being able to do any harm to the oscar.

you can also try rearranging decor and so forth but I doubt that will work. that approach is best for when the tank is large enough for 2 distinct territories and the 75 does not fit that bill. you can also try reducing the temperature because aggression has been known to decrease in relation to the temp but again this is very iffy and you'd probably have to reduce the temp into the high 60's and that would not necessarily stunt the fish but would definitely cause growth to slow considerably as well as reducing their immune system.

ultimately, a divider or a separate tank is the best way to go.
