Hey guys I've always loved trigger fish. They look so cool just flying through the water. I have a 120 gallon in the works and was was planning on making it a mixed reef tank (softies, SPS/LPS) but i also want a trigger. i was wondering if there was any reef safe trigger that i could get into the 120? i know a few of them a with caution such as the blue throat triggerfish, pinktail, and then most of them are aggressive but i was just wondering if anyone knew of one i could keep in a 120g reef.

i kept a bluefaced trigger in my 90G saltwater with no problems.

well the ones that say with caution refer to them attacking sessile inverts so you'll just have to be cautious with which inverts you use.

cross hatch trigers are cool

Yes, they are. But not for a 120. It's hard to come across small ones and they are very active fish. Mine love to swim right in to the Koralia 8 like it's a treadmill.

"Most reef compatible triggers are very expensive"... Pink tails tend to be on the cheaper side and don't naw at things like the Blue Jaws do.

Any trigger from the Xantichthys genus and possibly Melichthys. Bluejaw, niger, and pinktails would probably work. Red tail and crosshatch triggers need more than a 120g.
