I want to setup a trimless cube reef tank but the table its gonna rest must not have a cabinet. As such no sump or even canister.

I was thinking using just live rock and a lot of flow? Has anyone done this succefully for a length of time?

I was thinking 3lb of liverock per gallon and 100x flow?

Any suggestions.

Find an aquapod or nano cube if you can, something with the back chamber and lighting for simple corals. You will want some kind of overflow. More live rock won't matter much, because you will end up with dead zones, I would at least get some kind of protein skimmer if you already have this rimless tank. Could also run an aquaclear filter with some sort of media, even with live rock. I run sponges and live rock in my nanocube chambers and nothing else with enouh rock in the tank and my clowns and firefish have been doing well for over a year now. Also what is better about the all included setups is you can hide the heater, and sometimes not even need a heater with the lights.

The Berlin system has no filters, but massive amouts of LR... and live sand, with airstones, and powerheads to circulate the water around...

depends on your stocking and water change routine, yes it can be done.

i would recommend a hob skimmer if you want any decent kind of stocking with out alot of water changes

you can but when I did this on my own I was successful for 2 reasons.

1. weekly water changes of 15% and careful water chemistry.

2. the perfect balance of fish, inverts, and bio-load.

so if you try research really well all your potential live stock and think of issues you may face and inverts to counter balance it. And, be religious about the water chemistry and changes or you will surely have a system crash.

I'm gonna give it try, but I've changed my mind from the cube to a shallow cylinder. I figure there'll be less dead spots. 100x flow with no powerheads attached to the glass is gonna be difficult though.

Ill start with a couple of clowns and a flame angel. I'll run a canister filled with purigen and a hang on skimmer during the weekends.
