i have no filter on my tank

oh... well you need a lot more LR if you want to keep your tank steady... or buy a filter. That's why your fish aren't doing well... and why they are a few other probs...

can i add lr to a sort of established tank ?

yup... just watch your parameters... BTW you need a lot of LR... i'm not even kidding... you might as well just get a filter...

how much at a time ? i got 20bucks so i can pick up 4.5pounds then i can add another 5 next week

i still have 1 fish inthere

what fish? Anyways, good luck with the LR...

I have seen people successfully keep 75+ gallon reef tanks with a lot of LR and just a filter sock. They also were very careful to not add more fish than the tank could handle at full growth. It was cool to see but the tanks always looked kind of empty with a lot of LR and not than many fish.

good luck in your endeavor and please let me know if you come to a bump in the road and anyone else in the saltwater world.

I want to setup a trimless cube reef tank but the table its gonna rest must not have a cabinet. As such no sump or even canister.

I was thinking using just live rock and a lot of flow? Has anyone done this succefully for a length of time?

I was thinking 3lb of liverock per gallon and 100x flow?

Any suggestions.

Depending on the size of your tank, it could be good or bad. I don't really have a filter on my 29 gallon reef, but I do still use a sponge pad in the back to collect larger debris. Eventually, I added a protein skimmer to it though. Got tired of changing the water every 2-3 days. Haha.

Like stated before, if you can find a biocube, they have a back chamber in them that you can use for more live rock. Get some cheap, whatever looking rock, break it up, and fill that back up with as much as you can cram in it. That will help out your natural filtration a lot.
