Reeflo hammerhead gold pump set up

Thanks again Reedmaster, 3m5200 is my back up sealant for the windows aswell lol good info. Its alot cheaper than the Gold Label but i may end up paying more for the peace of mind i have with Gold Label. I used it on my 650 and its an exellent product, cant beat it. Its just too hard to find in the states. Doesnt make any sense its everywhere out of the u.s. . I've read the 3m5200 is kinda thin out of the tube. The gold label on the other hand was incredibly sticky and hard to push out of the tube. Formed a perfect gasket, its amlost like a mild asphault mix. Dries alot harder than standard silicone aswell. I cant really pick it off the front of the acrylic even after 3 years.
Thanks for the info on turnover rate aswell. I feel alot better on spending the money on the Reeflo. My 1700 pool is by far the easiest system in my home to care for and it only uses one 2200gph pump and a very ghetto rubbermaid overhead sump. Stock includes 7 24-30" TSN, 1 MarblexTSN 30", one 15" florida softshell turtle and a large oscar. This will also be my stock for the 3K

Not sure I understand this question correctly, but if you are talking about using PVC glue on the threads of the volute, don't do it. You'll want to be able to take the pump offline from time to time, so you don't want it glued in place.

When I used Teflon tape I found that I would get a very slow leak (and I didn't want to overtighten and risk breaking the volute. Reeflo recommends using paste so that's what I would do- I had good results with Rector Seal 5: http://rectorseal.com/RectorSeal-No-5.php
 
Nice info Aldiaz33! that was exactly what i was referring too (pvc into the threaded female ends of the pump). I'll def. give the reactor seal a try since you know it works. I didn't even think of a pipe compound as an option. Makes perfect sense, much appreciated! Is the Reactor seal similiar to the stuff used for installing sink/shower drains or watery like locktite? just curious
 
It's not quite as solid as the putty used for sealing sinks/shower drains; I would say it's closer to the consistently of toothpaste. It hardens up a bit as it dries. It's approved for use with potable water so you know it's not going to harm your fish.

If you are trying to maximize flow, I would recommend using 2" plumbing throughout. The HHG has 1.5" connections, but expanding to 2" or larger plumbing will reduce friction head.

Duely noted on the 2" pipe extension...would have never thought of that either lol really appreciate the knowledge...little things can make or break a build this big. Its sickening the frame looks small to me already haha...never ends
