Muds and musks are very very small, easy to feed, and not as active.

Box turtles require many specific things in their territory, as well as a large enclosure. ALL turtles love space. Just because theyre slow doesnt mean they sit still.

Turtle docks are unessecary. The smooth plastic ones are okay, but the Zoo Med fake rock one is abrasive, as well as the 'turtle log'. They cause abrasions on turtles feet.

A basking area for softshells is no different than a RES or other active turtle. Just go lower wattage and closer to the spot rather than a high wattage farther away. Keep the beam not as focused on one spot, they can dry out (dessicate).

A male eastern spiny fits your bill just fine. Florida softshells get common snapper size.

Hey lovespunaround, any link to your music or anything? I'd love to hear it! Haha, only thing I can play is Guitar Hero! ;) I like bands such as Led Zep, Van Halen, Boston, Rush, U2, Pearl Jam, Guns N Roses, Rolling Stones, ZZ Top... I like anything from classic to punk to metal to hard rock.

eastern spiny softshell?! Thanks Loconorc!

I am guessing I like turtles with longnecks. haha

And guess what, I just found out fly river turtles are illegal here. Since when was that? And I looked up the latin name on google Japan...I am moving to Japan fr-sure!!! They only go for around 10,000Yen. $100! They even sell them at fish stores, and speciality stores have them for like $10!
They say people like to keep flyrivers with redtail cats, arowanas, and other big fish! I don't know if it's safe in the long-term though..haha
Are flyrivers carnivorous all throught their lives? What do they eat in the wild?

If you want the one that keeps the spots on its back, you might want to get a Gulf Coast spiny softshell. I'm not sure if eastern spinies, even males, keep the spots when they grow up.

Do Gulf Coast Spinys get big?

About the same size as Eastern spinies. But the males are still a lot smaller than the females.

Okay!

I really like my sideneck... at first I thought he was bland and boring, but after really getting into my sliders.... I got him back from my stepfather's house who was trying the turtle thing.... and now I am really happy I have one...

What kind do you have?

Also, how do turtles sleep in the wild? Are they on land, or in the deep areas occasionally surfacing, or are they in the shallow areas with their head sticking out?

How does everybody elses turtle sleep like?
