I decided to buy a refractometer because i heard there much better than a hydrometer. Im having a hard time using it plz help. It is made by Milwaukee and has the code MR100ATC. I know that you put drops of water on the plate and look into it and find where the blue and white colors meet, and that shows your salinity level. The guy at the shop I bought it from showed me this and then started saying you need to calibrate it with this liquid. I filled my aquapod today with saltwater and used a hydrometer and this, just in case I was doing something wrong with this. The readings from the hydrometer was 1.025 and the refractometer 1.022. Which should I believe? Am I using the refractometer right? What is calibrating it mean? Srry for the noob questions
thx

you put distilled or deionized water on it and twist the screw untill the blue line is at 1.000 SG

calibrating it just means making sure it's accurate

you use distilled/DI water so that you know the SG is 1.000 and then clibrate the refractometer to that..

if you say..
use some tank water and move the blue line to what the hydrometer says, that would only make it as accurate as the hydrometer

Ok Thx hopefully Ill get it more

i never needed to calibrate mine... it shouldnt need to be if its fresh from the manufacturer
