I have a large empty space in my sump so I thought I would try this out to see if I could tackle some Nitrates

I would love to hear if anyone else has attempted this

Tank is 300 gallons running a 100 gallon rubber maid sump on a 2gph drip at a steady 20ppm nitrates which should make it a very reliable control. I will post back in about a month to see if the plants are still alive and if the Nitrates have been affected

I am using a 6700k spotlight compact bulb running about 10 hours a day

Sorry the pictures are terrible my sump is very cramped I shoved all the filter I could under the tank

we did something similar n my aquacultue class in high school. we only floated plants on the top via styrofoam in a 500 gal vat. grew pepper plants all yr round

Thanks Pete, I have seen those threads before but they where mainly using pothos or other non aquatic plants and I myself have gone that route before. I was wondering if anyone has tried it with aquatic plants such as vals or swords and if they have a different effect.

I guess I should have been more specific it is kind of difficult to tell the plants are submerged in the photo and I never said what I was using :wall:
