Refugium

ok, kicking back up this thread. Since I just got a Mandarin I will need to have a copepod population. I am going to modify my AC110 within the next few days. I plan on just using chaeto and copepods in the refugium. When it comes to lighting, will the residual lighting from my H.O. T% be enough or will it need its own independent lighting?

Your mandarin is likely doomed in such a small tank. If you can't get it to eat other prepared foods it will starve to death.
Also, the liverock is your biological filtration for the tank. Slatwater tanks run quite differently from freshwater. With the exception of fish only systems, filters aren't generally run on them. All you want is a good skimmer and good water flow (20-30x tank turnover per hour).
If you do put any mechanical filtration in the tank, make sure it is something you can get to daily to clean it out. Otherwise you run into nitrate problems.

Well i hear they are difficult to treat but I will do my best. I bought copepods in the tank and can alaways buy more. I will be modding the AC110 later this week to grow copepods.

But will I need extra lighting on the ac110? I mean my lighting seems pretty strong...

It really depends but I think you still need a light directly over it. I have my tank right by my window and it grows my chaeto like crazy. You should probably return the mandarin for now. It takes awhile to establish pods and buying them over and over again just won't cut it

Edit: Also forgot to add that the pods that you buy don't breed. You need to wait for them to establish themselves

My tank is next to the window... So that should work. I'm gonna attempt to keep the mandarin. It appeared to be eating today when I added some brine to the tank, so hopefully it works out

Here are pics of my mod. Let me know what you think. i'm going to the LFS tomorrow morning and get chaeto and more pods

ok so I finally got around to ordering a smaller impeller for the AC110 refugium. I ordered an AC20 one like I was told however, it doesn't fit. The metal pin that it sits on is a larger diameter than the hole in the impeller.. Did i get the wrong one or something?
