Refuim wet/dry for FW???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a denitrator, and I have a refugium section for my sump. I use potted plants in my refugium section, because anything floating works it's way into the rest of the sump and cloggs it up pretty fast.

I remember when I had a high light co2 injected plant tank (20gal bow front)...I had to add nitrates to the tank because the plants would sop it up even tho I had a lot of fish and fed a lot. It was pretty interesting to say the least. I like the idea of potted house hold plants so you dont have to fool with co2 injection....might be more work than its worth tho. But im no expert....

wow a lot of great information...very very knowledgeable people in here. thanks again guys.

I was doing some thinking about this and came up with this idea. It might not be what you want but it could be a viable alternative and add some plants and greenery to a fish room. You could put a tank, like a drilled 33 long on a stand near the tank to be filtered, place potted plants in it with lights over it, run an overflow to the 33 long from the main tank and have that drain into the sump. That would give the benefits of the denitrating of the water and a place to grow nice plants for the house and garden.

What about something like this? Same idea as bobs essentially, but you would only need one pump.
