Regenerating my purigen (pics included)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I only use Prime in my tank.
I have a small bag and a big bag so I always have purigen in the tank.
I regenerate over night, rinse, dechlorinate, rinse, and dechlorinate.
It smells weird so I was worried about the tank but I put it in a feeder tank and they were fine. If it dries out then the stuff is good. Or, you can get a chlorine test kit and test the water the regenerated purigen is in, not to mention, this will save you Prime.

This stuff is AMAZING!

i have heard its important for saltwater otherwise not so much

I use purigen in all my tanks larger than 20 gal. This product really helps with nitrates, FW or SW. It is worth the money.

He was talking about the buffer part.

Oh yeah! Good call!

The instructions say you need to use buffer for fw, not for SW. I doubt it is really necessary, I can't see any reason for it.

I am going to quit doing that. That Neutral Regulator is expensive, and adds an extra step.

so that looks about as much purigen i want to recharge i am going for it, so if i use a large amount of prime and discus buffer can i totally get this purigen stuff ready, i figure recharge will save me 75 bucks!

i have a 100ml pack in one of my filters. how much prime would i have to use to dechlorinate my purigen? Also isn't 1:1 a lot of bleach to use? I mean 100ml of water for 100ml of bleach? Someone told me it was less?

I'm just curious, but what if ya set it in a bucket and moved the water around with an airstone/old powerhead for 24hours?
Doesn't chlorine outgas pretty quickly?
