I'm Where I'm At
Has anyone bought a new car and regret they didn't buy another one or simply changed your mind?

I just bought a Honda Pilot LX last night and I didn't know all the details of the difference between the LX and EX model. I now realize I want the EX model.

Is there a law in California that allows me to return the car? Can I exchange? Any penalties? Or am I stuck?

I emailed a few places and waiting for their response. One guy from a different dealer said I may be stuck with it but he'll check and let me know if I have any other options. Doesn't sound like they'd be willing to trade me even if I trade for a car worth more than mine because they'd be losing out.

Anyone experience this and what did you do???

hmm i know CA has an option to return the car for whatever reason, but you have to pay $250 or so for this option at the time of purchase. but if you just want to exchange for a different model, they may be willing to work with you, but certainly arent required to do so

May not do it, the car no longer has an open MSO, it is now a used car and has to be sold as one.

Don't ask the dealer directly. They usually don't feel bad about lying to your face. Check through your contracts, In Texas we have a 14 day change-your-mind period. Look into it, then just tell them you found the EX somewhere else for the same price as their LX. See if you can get them to jump through some hoops.

Can you provide a link to that law?

You usually have a few days to change your mind. I know with used cars in Indiana, you have 7 days and I think it is the same for new.

I do not think you have that option, if so people would be returning cars all the time.

There is an cooling off period for contract signed in your residence, if you sign at the place of business, I think you are done.

yeah cali does not have a cooling off period, its specifically posted in all dealerships. unless you purchase the option to return as mentioned

I knew there was nothing in Texas.........
