Regrets with large tank and other newbie questions!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm in the beginning stages of building a 500 gal moving up from a 200 gal. store bought... bigger is better but as lemcc says think everything through... you can never plan enough... because unless you are rich and don't care about wasting money... you could waste a ton a time and funds.

Thanks guys,

I'm probably going to rule out the 240g. I just think thats a lil too much (add in dual overflows and 4 holes) esp since it still wont house the fish that I wanna keep and bichirs dont need <that> much space. I'm waffling between a 120g wide (72x24x17) or the 180g wide (72x24x24). With the 120g wide I go acrylic and buy a nice looking pre-made w/d. With the 180, i'd def have to go DIY on the w/d and get a glass aquarium.

Soo many choices, and hard to make when you dont know what kinda fish you want. Clown knives wont even stay housed in even the 180g will they?

They will for quite a while, but not for life.
Once they hit 12" their growth slows.

I say go with the big one, what the heck....

Planning is everything. The only reason that I have 3 55s & the 46g is because I am sure my floor wont hold more than a 75. I would have a big asz tank if I had a slab floor.

then I could have bigger fish... someday soon I hope...
