When I am using enough feeders to justify it I set up 2 storage tubs either 20 or 40G in tne garage, launry room, or on the patio, with cheap box filters or sponge filters and some bunches of elodea or cabomba, I then fill the tubs half full with salted water, 2 tsp salt/gallon and add guppies/gambusia, mollies, or bait chubs, I try to avoid goldfish feeders because of thier copper levels and thiamine levels. If I use live bearers they usually produce young though not enough to be self replacing as a steady source of a staple though ample as treats. Salt at that level does weaken the plant growth but those plants are cheap and a tub or two of plants alone will keep plenty adound for you.
In 20g of water I can start with up to 100 guppies or 30-50 mollies. I quarantine for 2 weeks at least then feed from one tub for 2 weeks, then switch tubs and replace the eaten ones from the first tub while feeding from the second one for 2 weeks. I use a good flake like tetramin tropical for the feeders.
If I feed small crayfish I usually trim off their thumbs first as a cray can kill a suprisingly large fish if it grabs a claw full of gills.
