Here's my mystery guy.
There is some red in his tail and dorsal fin. My guess he's 1.5 inches.
Did yours look like him before coloring up?

Very similar. I'd call that a Blackbelt. I do see some pearling in the dorsal and anal fin. Not sure what that may mean.
I will say this though... a lot of people have had these in community settings and been fine. Myou experience has been much different from that. This fish is the most ignorant and down right nasty fish I've kept. At 3" it has not tolerated tank mates. Just a warning, keep an eye on it for sure.

Thanks for the warning.
We were at store we got it from and they had another smaller one labeled as a TBar cichlid. I guess time will tell.
They had a decent size black belt for $50.

The violence does deter me though. My Blackbelt will stay here life term. I have to say, she is the most intelligent and calculating fish I've kept.
