Rekindling the Cichla Fire

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not referring to specific species but to some more collection points or even some collection points that have been brought in before in the past that you don't see anymore. Rn Orino's, Venezuala orinos and of course like you mentioned interms. We have been spoiled the last couple of years but me personally I don't like to settle I like progression.

So true!
I would love to see some orino's imported that aren't rio meta.

I'd also like to see some RN orinos. I had the chance to buy one a while back, but was too noob to know exactly what I was looking at. I thought it was just lile any 'ol orino.

Beautiful collection!! where did you get the FG ocellaris from?

That's a good question for Pete. Here is the history as far as I know.

Haynchinook334 --> Sevank21 --> Chizzle

This update is for G.

I installed my new 100 gallon sump today (48x24x20), the old one was 120 gallon with no baffles. It was a girl dog to clean, due to the 24" height (25.75" overall including trim).

I also decided to revamp my existing plumbing. My 360 runs flawlessly, but for some odd reason I have to adjust my ball valves on my 270 everytime I do a waterchange. To remedy this I just left the ball valves on the drains 100% open which left a 2.5" gap between waterline and top of tank. Normally this isn't a big deal, but it caused the holes on my spray bar to be exposed. The result was lots of surface agitation and microbubbles, this gave my tank a dirty look even though it was just a bunch of bubbles. My new plumbing raises the waterline just .25" under the top of tank, the drains are still 100% open, and no more ugly microbubbles.

Please excuse the cloudy water, everything is still getting settled in.

I still have most of the old sump's media in my 360's sump, I'm planning on transferring a few bags over each day over the next week.

So far I'm very pleased, it will be much easier to do maintenance now that I can get my arm in there without having to dislocate my shoulder. I also installed a cool check valve I bought from marinedepot. It has a union on each end which will allow me to detach it and clean it out when it gets clogged.

Pics of pinima and thinbars in a cooler. I forgot to take a pic of the other cooler. Which held 10 kels and 1 xingu.

Pic of the old 120G sump, 48x24x24. Can't wait to sell it, I originally got the tank from another member located on SoCal.

Looks great chizzle!
Makes me want to do some revamping on my sump.

Did u drill the 270g yourself or did it come pre-drilled?
6x36x24 dims on the 270?

Drilled by manufacturer, all my tanks and sumps came from aqua aquarium which is now elite aquariums. The new owners are actually a lot easier to work with.

Those are the correct dimensions, there are two 2.5" in diameter holes drilled into the back panel. 3" down from the top and 3" from side of tank on each side. I opted for this style to save on space, but now i kind of wish i had overflows. The bilkheads I used are the slip x slip style 1.5" bulkhead. So far, so good!

Anyone else care to share how their Cichla tank is setup?
