This has been in debate since i don't know when... Fishes have been released into reservoirs in all parts of the world since, God knows when... The questions is, "Should we or should we not be doing this?" To me, I think its not a problem doing this... Carp and Snake Heads in the great lakes are just some freak occurrences... Nature should be able to take its course... Survival of the fittest...As it always has been.
Carp and Snakeheads will not survive long pr flourish in the frigid waters up north anyway... and in the Singapore reservoirs, the only thing destroying the eco-system is man....
Whatever kinds of predators introduced wherever, I think "Nature Will Take Its Course" and man's intervention is the one that really spoils all things...

Cheers

I agree with you Martin

Tks for your reply! Hoestly, the way i see it, man has always been the one destroying the natural environment... In Singapore, it is the poaches who kill and eat the fishes... Either that or kidz that fish and kill and torture the fish for fun... Have seen it at lower pierce where there are few groups of hooligans that are doing that...

Glad to see that there are some people who share the same thoughts!!

Cheers
Martin

Here in the Midwest, the Asian Goby and the Zebra/Quagga mussel have taken over the entire in shore habitat, wiping out the native species and creating a close to mono species eco-system. The mussels cause milliions of dollars every year to be spent on removal from pipes and water intakes, chemicals are added to prevent them from breeding in pipes, and as they are filter feeders, they eat the micro algae and micro fauna required by native fish to grow.
This has caused and crash in the fishery putting people out of work.
The release of the Nile Perch in Lake Vitoria caused mass extinctions of cichlids, these cichlids normally ate snails that harbor a disease vector for river blindness in people, causing the disease to increase.
African bees, I could go on and on...because
Your argument for releasing invasive species seems to me to be based on a very uninformed theory of how ecosystems develop and balance.
Yes man has destroyed the natural environment, and one of those ways, is releasing things that should not be released in the wrong places.

This ^^

There should be no debate. If it doesn't belong there, don't put it there...

I also strongly disagree with the op. I don't have enough time to address every possible scenario but i will say this: Darwin is rolling in his grave right now(or was that charles Martel?) it takes years for ecosystems to attain an equilibrium, throwing a nonnative species in the mix could be disastrous. Also, if it is ok to introduce predators then you agree that it is ok to introduce say, king cobras and lions and grizzly bears into new York city because " nature will take it's course". This whole argument is based on flawed logic on the ops part.
