denver,nc..
i've become less than thrilled with our $800 a month and rising electric rates so, i've decided to do something about it!

i've installed 36-216 watt sharp solar panels! i should average 1500kwh a month or more and this system should reduce it by and avarage of 1100kwh/month!..i know its not really fish related but i had to shut down my pond due to the high cost of heating and filtering the water..with any luck, i'll be able to get another pond or more tanks without substantial electric bills!!:headbang2

Nice!!! I have been starting to think green with my tanks too. I'm looking at adding a cistern to hold used tank water and then hooking it into the irrigation system to water the lawn.

800.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How much is that system!!!

very nice.. are you doing the whole roof or is that it.. im noticing trees

i thought my electric bill was high at 340 sheesh

Thats VERY awesome man!!!! Can you give me more details about that? How you set it up, where to acquire some, and cost? I am working on making a 'fish room' and would love to have an alternate source of power for it! :D VERY COOL!

thanks, the roof is higher than the trees and they're 30 feet away..virtually no shading issues at all..systems cost 10k and up..depending on panel and inverters and mounting methods..these panels (216w) are upwards of 1000 each..smaller wattages are available for lots less..it wont completely eliminate my electric bill (you dont get reimbursed if you produce more power than you use) but should put me in the lower cost per kwh bracket!

Geez, lol. Its definately for someone who has a better cash flow huh? LoL!

Do you 'reserve' the energy? Perhaps have a generator or something? Store it into a battery so you can use it instead of electricity some days a month to cut back on the cost? Would be cool if you had two systems and just rotated them as one was drained! :D

all energy created and not used goes into the utility companys grid ("grid tied system") and when you need it back,at night usually, you take it back from the grid.your meter will litterally run backwards when you are creating more than your using..california has a incentive of $$$$ to install a system..ALOT of red tape...

sytems with batterys are not usually grid tied meaning you charge the system during daylight hours and store and use when needed from the batterys.these systems are best for cabins in the remote areas and such.
