I bred bettas for years, all types also. My method, was probably very unconventional. I used a plastic cookie jar bowl, that was frosted, not clear. I would tape a clear piece of plastic to the side, put a piece of paper on top of it, and place that bowl on top of my cbale box. I would float my female in there everyday for three days letting her out with the male for 5 minutes for the 1st two days. The third day I would just let her be with him until they bred. I would then put a book to cover the top and leave them, and when she was done, I would leave the father with eggs covered until all fry were free swimming. Then I would transfer the fry to a grow out tank.
