Interesting! Where (which wal-mart) and When did you get yours? I wonder if they were from the same breeder?

I got mine from Walmart in Fowlerville Michigan. I'd bet they're from the same parents. Yours just looks older and a lot nicer than mine. Glad to see somebody else is finding something at walmart. I've got some sweet flowerhorns at another Walmart by me too.

Sweet! How big is yours? When did you get him? They may very well be from the same parents...

I would say maybe around July and with lots of waterchanges and omega one it's only about 4.5". I've raised a lot of devils and midas and I can tell you that they do not grow this slow, but carpinte do so it must be a hybrid. Mine did not look like a half peeled carpinte when I got it but mine was bigger too so he may have looked like yours at one point. I'd bet if I went back to that Walmart I could find some more. I go to the Walmart 1 city over and I've found more that look like this in the past but didn't buy any more. I'm still very happy with how mine has turned out I just don't need 10 of them. If I found any more I'd consider shipping them though. If the rest of the northeast checks their Walmarts though I am sure they can find some.

I have not seen another one since we found him. How often do they actually turn Red even if they are from the same parents? i thought that was a somewhat rare occurance? I will definitely keep my eyes open for more though!

I'm not sure what you are asking but if you're referring to it being a SRT that's not red it's because it's not a SRT. If it wasn't line bred to be a SRT it's not one, even if it looks like one you can't call it a SRT because that's not what it is. It's probably just be red devil X carpinte or something simple. This is what happens when fish stores get fish from bad suppliers. You never know what kind of junk hybrids you'll get. To somebody at the LFS who doesn't know much it may look like a purebred fish to them. Even if it looks cool to us it's really bad for the hobby. If some noob gets a pair of red devils from walmart, breeds them, and sells all the fry on craigslist it's going to affect a lot of your local red devils strains for a long time.

your little girl sure is cute though!

Cam's looks exactly like some I saw at Petsmart a couple months ago. They had a little blue pearling on the cheeks just like that. Neat lookin fish, if they had one like the first one posted, I would've grabbed it in a second.

thanks, she's a pretty mellow fish considering what I keep her with. I've got another big hybrid who kind of resembles a red texas that I think I may breed her with. Then I can get a in between fish.
