lol its about a year and a half for me. its mainly cuz ive been saving my allowance lol and am paying for it myself :)

honestly a 300 is a waste for a fahaka....
 
oscars, polypterous, african cichlids, south american cichlids, piranha, many catfish, most any fish you can find at an LFS in the main tanks in fact.

Just dont pick something specialized until you have more experience. I would suggest you go with some oscars. They are hardy, have loads of personality, inexpensive, aggressive, smart, great fish to learn how to maintain a true monster tank with.

you could...brackish really limits what you can get though and IMO it would be a pain to mix salt for every water change but still not get to keep marine fish.

As long as you understand that they are brackish, and you are willing to do the work and spend the money.
