I would cancel the order to be honest unless you have a 10 thousand gallon tank with shark's so they can host and get the necessary food and etc...

Remoras are not like cleaner wrasse. They do not have an exclusive diet of parasites, and have about the same willingness to eat anything as an oscar does.

What size tank do you have?

As of now it is a 180. I will get him in something bigger, as he needs it. He's only supposed to be around 6 inches. :)

I had an idea, and was wondering if anything thinks it would work. If i rigged a big plastic shark, or sea turtle, or something to that effect, up to the surface/middle of the tank, with a powerhead blowing at it from the front, would that somewhat simulate being on a host? Would it be likely to be used?

Oh, and yes, I am aware how big remoras can get.

Just only suggesting from experience. Hope your successful but just rethink it before you invest your fund's on it.

aside from oscars... fish arent stupid. its going to know that its not a real animal. they dont just hang on for the ride like its 6 flags, it knows when its real or not.

i know your heart is set on it, but i wouldnt get one either.

I know it'll know its not real, but remoras will hang onto boats, and etc as well.

All I was wondering is, aside from it getting large, why is everyone so opposed? They do just as well in captivity as most other fish do, according to every bit of research i've done..

the research you read what application's where the remora's housed in and who was taking care of them most stuff on internet is from biologist housing them or VERY VERY lucky hobbyist. But if your researching it you might get lucky just really read thing's through so you don't kill a fish, due to lack of knowledge and capacity as well as food.

Agreed. I definately don't want to end up killing it. I've kept cleaner wrasse before, and gotten them to grow and do well, so hopefully things will turn out alright. All the things I could find about actually keeping remora in captivity, however, described them as almost being hardy. :)

my only true opposition is due to the fact that your tank is way too small for it and that fish like that NEED a natural environment to truly thrive.
