Remote deep sand bed for freshwater?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Can you suggest some of these methods, pleeaassee :D

The water change is an obvious way.
Don`t overfeed and keeping the filters clean is also a given.
For tanks 150g and below it is just simpler to do the WC.
NOTE: If your still using buckets, you need to take some time to examine how you can do this more effectively.
Algae scrubbers are simple. Easy to build and maintain.
Plants have been used for years.
Various rechargeable resins can be added to present filters.
For the larger tanks, a constant loss, continual water change system works well and isn`t rocket science.
Trying to make an alien system to handle nitrates isn`t easy.
The very things that keep your fish healthy will fight your efforts.
I`ve seen a number of coils, towers, and beds that had varying amounts of reported success.
Making a nitrate specific filter darn near is rocket science.
The smallest of errors can cause it to blow up.
Not saying don`t try.
Who knows, you might stumble on a new way that has been overlooked by all those who tried before.

Hmm that's a good question, I'd think the more sand the more anaerobic bacteria, but I'm really not sure if that would hold true

I've seen plenty of evidence to the contrary.

Allot of the evidence has been posted right here, on MFK.

Meow?

So anyway, how big if a bed would one really need for, say, a 125g? Would a five-gallon tank with four inches of sand do anything?

Wow. What a read. Seems totally doable. I have scuds and blackworm at hand and access to sand of that fineness.

remote means exactly that - to answer a previous question.
Besides stereotypical practices, Sand beds dont have to be the display &/or in the sump!
If its linked to the system and water is flowing through it, its functional
