Removing chloramine w/out chemicals-possible?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have never worried much about the tiny amounts of ammonia that are part of chloramine, because I expect my beneficial colonies to immediately catch it, so I use simple sodium thiosulfate salts, and mix my own as a dechlorinator.
I do, do 30-40% water changes every other day, so I expect the colonies get accustomed to the slight surges of regular ammonia.
I also send water change water to sumps first, as opposed to directly to the main tanks. Not only for the chlorine, but to buffer temp changes or other unforeseen changes that occasionally occur from municipal water suppliers.
But because my normal average tap water disinfection residual is only 1.25 ppm with a 5 to 1 chlorine to ammonia ratio, the ammonia part is miniscule.

After adding a bloop of sodium thiosulfate, to the tank water, chloramine residual below
