Hey folks,

I have a 300 gallon acrylic tank with dual corner overflows. I want to take the overflows out, any ideas? All inputs will be highly appreciated.

^^^ Looks like your tank is glass, mines is acrylic... big difference in removing the overflows... I'll be running canisters, no need for overflows...

I just setup a 60g that has an overflow. Honestly it didnt look that bad so I just used pvc pipe caps and it is now hid behind my outflow for my canister. You do have a much bigger tank so it might be more obvious but just my .02

Since no one has ever taken overflows out in a acrylic tank, I will be the first on MFK to do so... I will find a way to do it and update as I go along with pictures. My first start is taking a heat gun to it at full blast and try to melt the cement off if possible.

The reason no one has done it is because it looks like crap when you do. They have top be cut out. Using a heat gun will only jack up your tank. The cement used in acrylic is like welding steel. The joint is stronger than the material used. If you use a saw to cut out the boxes and leave a little bit on the sides then sand it down and polish it out it might not be that noticable but is going to take hours upon hours of time. Your best bet if you really want them gone is to trade someone for a tank that does not have overflows. or just plumb the canister to use the overflows.

Yea i just built a 120 tank 4x4x1 and the acrylic cement is meant to bond together so if you try and take it apart you will only screw it up, so i totally agree with the1and only
